About
Duo Basili Kosovinc unites internationally acclaimed musicians Cristina Basili (cello) and Timotej Kosovinc (guitar), who share an artistic vision of forging new paths within the classical music tradition while honouring its roots. The duo has appeared at major music festivals (Festival Ljubljana, Dubrovnik Summer Festival, Patras Music Festival etc.) and has performed in leading concert halls (Musikverein Vienna, Slovenian Philharmonic Hall, MuTh Concert Hall, Belgrade Philharmonic Hall etc.) across the world. They are united by a wish for experimenting with sound, expressive storytelling, reflecting the modern world in their music as well as discovering (forgotten) jewels of the classical repertoire. Their performances evoke vivid musical landscapes and establish a direct, intimate connection with their audiences.
They are winners of numerous international music competitions and are widely recognized for their artistic individuality, refined ensemble playing, communicative performance style and innovative concert programs. Their repertoire spans classical and modern works written for cello and guitar, with an emphasis on compositions by Timotej Kosovinc. These original works contribute significantly to the cello–guitar repertoire and reflect the duo’s commitment to living composers and new music, resulting in the publication of several recordings as well as a CD Die Rote Brille for the STB record label. Their recordings have been broadcast on Austrian, Italian, Greek, Serbian and Slovenian radio and television. Through these broadcasts and live performances, Duo Basili Kosovinc stands up for the cello-guitar duo as a compelling modern chamber music formation. Their artistic activities include not only concert performances and music publishing but also interdisciplinary projects and curated concerts.
Based in Vienna, the duo benefits from the city’s rich music life while maintaining a strong international outlook. Duo Basili Kosovinc performs on Thomastik-Infeld Vienna strings.
